Coronavirus – How to Stop the Anxiety

Peace over anxiety

Do you feel that anxiety is taking over our sanity and peace?  Why can’t we just turn off these feelings that are trying to take over our mind and body?  If we could just stop these nagging thoughts that trigger the anxiety then it would be okay.  Thoughts of a stressful situation can easily prolong the anxiety.

Today with the Coronavirus upon us, some days we may not want to get out of bed!  Many people are housebound and not working and tend to think about the virus more often.  Unfortunately, these dreadful thoughts about the virus and the all the negativity is increasing anxiety even more.

Right now is the perfect time to stop focusing on the world and start redirecting our thoughts to God for peace and reassurance.

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge.  I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.  Psalm 57:1 (NIV)

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

god is hope

This may be a time to regroup, trust God, and discover what our real priorities should be.  People have been distracted for so long by many things such as politics, social media, strife, power, material things and more that we have put God on the back burner of our life.

Unfortunately God has been left out of so many things when He should have been placed above everything else.  Our society sometimes feels like a fast paced race!   When we allow ourselves to experience a relationship with supernatural God, He promises us peace. He knew we could never have the capacity to embrace complete peace on our own.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27 (NIV)

The Coronavirus is a wakeup call; He is watching and is saddened by the division and the distractions of this world. God is a loving God that only desires the best for us so when we experience challenging times; we come out stronger and are able to change our lives for the better when we give up our control.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14

I believe when all of this is over, our nation will see that God is good and even though this looks like a really bad scenario right now, we must not ever doubt that God is in control. He is able to accomplish more than we ever could imagine.

We must also believe that God’s son Jesus Christ exists and gave His life for us. So when the feelings of anxiety appear, read the good Word, fervently pray, then close your eyes and focus on Jesus and His goodness.  Visualize Him right there with you, comforting you and you’ll begin to feel a great peace come over you.
