The Holy Bible tells us that God wants believers to marry only believers and there are scriptures that tell this and explain why.
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial (or evil)? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols?
For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you. 2 Corinthians 6:14-17
The greatest earthly blessing from God that a believer can have is marrying another believer. Happiness in a marriage between two strong believers will be stronger because of their contentment and thankfulness for all of the Lord’s blessings. Some think that their proposed ungodly mate will change after the marriage but this is a denial. It would be difficult to believe that anyone will change for the better after marriage.
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. 1 Corinthians 2:14
But the question is now, “How does one
find a spouse who is a believer and how can they be sure they are choosing the right one? Prayer is a powerful and finding someone at church or a Christian event is possible. There are Christian singles websites that will allows the ability to find out more about the potential mate before meeting them. Knowing that they are Christians and have the same beliefs is a great place to start.
When we are following this Biblical advice, we finally meet the person we were meant to be with and this is one of the greatest blessings you will experience! So be patient, pray without ceasing and it will happen with God’s perfect timing and plan.
