How to Overcome Depression and Disappointment Right Now!

how to overcome depressionWe all would like to know how to overcome depression. Everyone knows the ache of sadness that comes when life moves in an undesired direction. Disappointment may include health issues,  the deaths of loved ones, broken relationships, and job layoffs and more.  If we fall for the world’s idea of what matters, we get caught up in an endless circle of next time will be different.  The new relationship, promotion, etc. or whatever didn’t bring the happiness you desired so you keep on searching and thinking “Maybe next time.” This way of thinking will always have the same results because God created you for something much better, and we need to trust Him.

Sometimes He allows disappointments so we can fully rely on Him—by walking by faith and not by sight.  Remember though–while disappointments are a part of life, discouragement is a choice. We don’t have to allow the challenges that happen steal your happiness or confidence in Him. Our daily discouragement threatens to consume our emotional resources and turns our attention away from the all knowing God.  Don’t let circumstances control us, we need to let Jesus in by prayer and listening to Him and not dwell on disappointments.  We all need to accept the truth that God knows what’s best for us.

But how can we learn to trust in the Lord instead of the world or yourself? How do we overcome depression on our own? I know it is much easier said than done to overcome depression and disappointment, and it may seem impossible unless you allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life.   Not only will he convince you of the right path of trusting in the Lord, he’ll help you do it because it is just too tough to do on your own.

God does have blessings for you —better than you can imagine! We all need to let go of our disappointments and the doubt of hope and trust in our life. The Lord holds your future in His hands, and you will never lose by trusting Him and looking forward to what He has in store.  Remember that God is more concerned with our future potential than our present circumstances.  He often takes us through difficult times to get our eyes off our own limitations so that we can see His limitless power. It is a mistake to try to rush the work God is doing in our lives. Perseverance is the key to every great accomplishment because nothing of lasting value has ever been achieved without adversity.

God will make something beautiful of your life, but He needs your trust to accomplish this. The best time to start is right away so we can experience His best for our lives. We no longer have to figure out on our own how to overcome depression and disappointment.  We are now set free by God’s perfect plan!
